Mobile phone operator Sun Cellular posted a robust 18% growth in its prepaid cellular revenues in 2012.

Mobile phone operator Sun Cellular posted a robust 18% growth in its prepaid cellular revenues in 2012. From almost PhP10 billion in 2011, Sun Cellular’s Prepaid revenues climbed up to PhP11.7 billion last year. It also registered a 6% increase in its subscriber base with a total of over 14 million prepaid subscribers by the end of last year.

Sun Cellular’s Chief Executive Officer, Orlando Vea says this positive growth has been mainly a result of the network’s relentless efforts to enhance its nationwide coverage and the introduction of more innovative prepaid offerings.

“Coming from our network expansion program in 2011, we have reaped the benefits of Sun’s improved coverage and strengthened network synergies,” Vea said.

Sun Cellular’s Chief Operating Officer Charles Lim said that the market has responded strongly to the company’s high-denomination loads and more aggressive “Tri-net” offerings which enable subscribers to get in touch with their contacts from Sun, Smart, and Talk ‘N Text.

“We have become much bolder in our efforts to strengthen the value-for-money benefit of the Sun Prepaid brand, and in empowering our subscribers to communicate better through the introduction of new loads with more powerful inclusions and longer validity periods,” Lim said.

“After leading the industry in rolling out new weekly and Pay Day loads under our Text Unlimited, Call & Text Combo and TextALL lines, we were able to set new directions in the spending and usage patterns of our subscribers,” he added. “Many of them have now come to appreciate more the convenience and the benefits of our high-denomination prepaid loads, as compared to the usual daily-load variants.”

Sun Cellular officials also attributed the company’s strong pre-paid performance to beefed-up inter-network offerings. Vice-President for Prepaid Marketing Joel Lumanlan said that their inter-network offerings have gone beyond offering load variants. “We also came up with the TRIO PLUS SIM card and load variant which featured special service inclusions for calling and texting Sun, Smart and Talk ‘n Text, and even PLDT and Digitel landline subscribers,” Lumanlan said.

Marking its tenth year in the telecommunications business this 2013, Sun Cellular looks forward to sustaining its growth and contributing more industry milestones by reinventing its signature unlimited services and introducing innovations to further empower mobile consumers.

Sun Cellular is a member of the PLDT Group.
